Types of materials used for deck railings

Wood Railing. Wood railing is the traditional railing solution. The wood railing is a sturdy, professional looking and inexpensive option. However, this option needs a lot of maintenance to retain its beauty. Wooden railings are prone to damage, and require staining or painting to maintain their allure at least once a year.

Vinyl Railing. The vinyl railing is an affordable, minimal maintenance and no frails solution. It is popular for being lightweight and straightforward to install. Vinyl railings come with non-porous surfaces, which means they never need painting or staining. The main drawback of this sort of railing is the limited color choices you will be presented with, it also tends to get brittle in colder months.

Cap Stock Composite Railing. Another popular material for railing, which you might want to look into is composite decking. It is crafted with sawdust and recycled plastic materials. The composite material undergoes a process that is referred to as ‘co-extruding’ and comes with an exterior shell, which is usually PVC. The interior substance offers unmatched durability, while the exterior one comes with a magnificent finish and in a number of varying color options. On the downside, cap stock composite railings are bulky and require a labor-intensive installation process.

Glass Railing. Glass railings are widely acclaimed for offering remarkably clear and unobstructed views, and are tempered as well to enhance their safety. Some brands include marvelous etched designs, lighting options and a variety of color tints. You can conveniently choose the very best that suits your requirements and inclinations to the T. Glass deck railings can be treated to minimize water spotting. On the other hand, these varieties of railings require very regular cleaning, which can be a turn-off if you do not have enough time and desire to do so. They can increase your deck’s surface temperature too in the hotter months of the year.

Cable Railing. Cable railing is made up of 316 stainless steel, and comes in 19 slender cables that have to be wound together, and the end result is a single durable and visually appealing cable. Some of the highlights of these railings are the unobstructed views they facilitate, contemporary designs, low maintenance, and customizable attributes. On the downside, cable railing is not children-friendly.

Aluminum Railing. Aluminum railings are long-lasting, lightweight, and also resistant to rusting. This makes such a railing close to maintenance-free. These products are made available in a number of color options as well as baluster shapes. However, their contemporary look doesn’t easily blend well with all architectural designs.
